The project is that of an innovative nature, we aimed to develop a new pest monitoring system prototype, which will be achieved by the interconnection of the two already operating systems: CSALOMON ® traps family and EDAPHOLOG soil biological monitoring system. In addition to the innovation, we focus on measuring and presenting the environmental improvement resulted from the use of the prototype.
1 Development of ARTHROLOG prototype (its components):
a, TRAPS / air, ground and crawling insects; 5 kinds of mechanical structures, which are based on the designs of CSALOMON ® pheromone traps; functionally identical, but their construction will be further developed; a total of 200 pcs/
b, SENSORS / daylight sensor: CCD type sensors; IR opto-electronic sensors that operate only in dark sensor field; a variety of sensors are species-specific or trap type-dependent and are essentially based on the operation of EDAPHOLOG sensors; Some of them will only undergo sensitivity adjustment, others will be transformed to provide a new function; a total of 200 pcs/
c, LOGGERS data transmission units / Loggers transmit data via Internet to the central server built in each probe/

2 Field testing and demonstration tests
4 sites: orchards, arable lands, running for several years. Usefulness and precision of the probes, reduction of pesticide use, as well as cost efficiency will be investigated. The main insect pests occur in Europe will be investigated in Hungarian and Criatian sites by using indicator pest species.
With the help of the field testing and demonstration test we present evidences on the reduction in the quantity of pesticides used as a result of the project. A more detailed and thorough literature research will be finished in the frame of the project. In case studies reductions by 30-40% in insecticide sprays have been reported when they were timed to pheromone trap catches. According to the literature reduction will be significant –as it is evident in IPM-, although the rate of decrease depends on many factors, we can expect a quarter to a third decrease.
3 Dissemination and communicating the results
Outcomes of the studies and field tests in the form of leaflets: a study of 12 pcs, 4 pcs of professional trainings, 4 project workshops, 10 conference publications, website.
